The New DKult Doodle Therapy TLP Arrived! By Rebecca Guyver (UK), Carina Granlund (Finland), Herman Kamphuis (Netherlands)

Mail art by Rebecca Guyver (Suffolk, UK), Carina Granlund (Petsmo, Finland) and Herman Kamphuis (Amsterdam, Netherlands)

I must admit to experiencing something akin to goose bumps when I realized that inside the exquisitely plasticized packaging I held in my trembling hands at the post office was a brand new TLP (Tacky Little Pamphlet) in the DKult Doodle Therapy series. Rebecca Guyver has shaped this concept into iconic mail art. These pieces will certainly have a place when the history of the TLP is definitively written.

A doodle therapy TLP has not appeared in a long time, long enough for the series to begin a drift out of the collective consciousness. While this issue – the Aly Khan Affair – is relatively compact and lacking some of the mail art star contributors of the past who wowed us in terms of numbers and notoriety, the piece does not disappoint. In fact, it was well worth the wait. The chemistry is as strong and unique as ever. Perhaps Rebecca Guyver’s “post production” is part of the secret sauce that makes the series a stand out.

Rebecca Guyver and Carina Granlund perform their recognizable magic. Both demonstrate their ability to captivate on a stage that is noticeably less populated than in the past. Newcomer Herman Kamphuis seems to bring a grounding to the work that was absent (but hardly necessary) in previous issues. The mind-bending associations that propelled previous surreal narratives forward are subdued in the Aly Khan Affair, replaced by arcane popcult references and a fascination with Hollywood’s golden age.

And in addition to a new DKult Doodle Therapy TLP, this amazing package included several other items of note. Here is (a page from) an article about Rebecca Guyver that appeared in the UK, including material covering her mail art involvement. Note that Carina Granlund, Marie Wintzer, and Simon Warren are mentioned:
