MinXus Mail Bag: Minimalism from the Prints of Pop (Carbondale, Illusion, USA)

Richard - 10.1.2015 - 1

“Minimal Pop” mail art by Richard Canard (Carbondale, Illinois, USA)

We have greatly enjoyed discussions, centered at IUOMA-Ning, by and about mail artists whose work has PopArt elements and why PopArt persists with such intensity in the Eternal Network. Richard Canard, cited as being one of the reigning P(r)oponents in contemporary mail art, has contributed to the dialog in a traditional and enduring way: He sent us mail art on the subject, which we are thrilled to share here. If the scan does not convey the content on your screen: This dirge-like image faintly displays a Coca Cola logo. Richard Canard leaves no doubt concerning his intent:

The use of the Coca Cola logo reminds us of another mail artist whose work is sometimes considered PopArt, sometimes Trashpo. We are speaking, of course, of Erni Baer (Hamburg, Germany) who sent us this classic piece long ago:

Many thanks to Richard!
